After School Enrichment that Goes Beyond the Classroom:

FPP provides creative learning opportunities that encourage experiential and hands-on learning outside of the typical school curriculum. Each session focuses on a different technical or vocational field, allowing students to explore various career paths and develop practical skills through engaging projects and activities, often taught through an interdisciplinary lens. FPP classes serve approximately 10 students to ensure individual attention is provided, appropriate differentiation occurs, and community is built among participants. Class content is purposefully designed to be highly interactive and engaging, ensuring that students are actively participating and doing hands-on activities instead of sitting passively.

How It Works:

FPP offers four different sessions throughout the year, each with a duration of eight weeks. Students take the St. Michaels Community Center bus after school to the location of their class, where snack and socialization time is provided. Most classes are held at the St. Michaels Community Center; however, various field trips are organized to provide students with real-world experiences and exposure to different professional environments. Each session also includes exposure to community experts in the discipline being taught and an invitation for a presentation to parents on the final day of class.

Future Pathways Program (FPP)

Overview:

Started in 2023, the Future Pathways Program (FPP) is designed to enrich the middle school experience by igniting students' passions through early exposure to technical and vocational fields, preparing them for future endeavors. FPP incorporates a broad set of career and technology programs, aligning them with the Talbot County Career & Technology Education program. Recently, TAYA has partnered with the St. Michaels Community Center as part of the collective impact initiative to expand Future Pathways access to more middle school students in the Bay Hundred area.
