Tilghman After School Kids (TASK) Program Overview:

The Tilghman After School Kids Program is designed to provide elementary school-aged students with a stimulating and supportive environment for personal and academic growth beyond the regular school day. Over the last twenty years, TAYA has provided more than 50 diverse enrichment classes for elementary school students through the Tilghman After School Kids program, including courses in gardening, painting, mindfulness, and cooking, as well as STEM-based programs such as Makerspace, Crazy 8’s Math Club, and Lego Challenges. TAYA is committed to fostering a love for learning and encouraging students to explore new interests.

After School Enrichment that Goes Beyond the Classroom:

While many after-school programs offer care for children while parents work, TASK provides a unique opportunity for students to relax and unwind while engaging in activities that spark curiosity, promote prosocial behavior, and foster connections with peers and adults. Students have the opportunity to enroll in classes that interest them, choosing from a variety of subjects including the arts, fitness, mathematics, science, engineering, technology, and outdoor activities. With a focus on holistic development, TASK ensures that every child can explore their passions, develop new skills, and build meaningful relationships within their community in a supportive and nurturing environment.

How It Works:

The TASK program meets after school in the Tilghman Elementary School gymnasium from 3:30-5:30 PM. Students are offered a healthy snack and physical exercise and are then divided into two groups: pre-K through 2nd grade and 3rd through 5th grade for an hour of enrichment activity. Children may be signed up for individual days, all days, or any combination. Registration is offered on a session basis, and sign-up forms can be received through the school, online, or through TAYA’s Facebook site. There is always someone present who is CPR and First Aid certified. Pick up is between 5:00 and 5:30 PM at the southeast gymnasium door, where cars drive up and each child is released to the approved designated person. Designations of approved pick-ups must be made in writing.  Please note that some classes may be held off site, and transportation for these activities will be provided by TASK instructors or coordinators with parental approval.

We offer four 8-week sessions for the TASK program during the 2024 - 2025 school year:

  • Session 1: September 9th - October 31st (Register Here)

  • Session 2: November 11th - January 17th

  • Session 3: January 27th - March 21st

  • Session 4: March 31st - May 23rd

Please note: TASK does not run on days that Talbot County Schools are closed or on half days.

Pre K- Grade 2:

The TASK program for pre-K to 2nd grade students is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports early childhood development. Our youngest participants will engage in a variety of activities that promote creativity, social skills, and physical coordination. Activities include interactive storytime, basic arts and crafts, simple science experiments, and fun physical games. This group focuses on fostering curiosity and a love for learning while building foundational skills in a playful and supportive setting.

Grades 3-5:

The TASK program for 3rd to 5th grade students offers a dynamic and engaging environment where older children can explore their interests and develop new skills. This group will participate in more advanced activities such as STEM projects, creative arts, physical activities, and problem-solving challenges. We aim to encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership among participants. With a diverse range of enrichment activities, students are inspired to delve deeper into subjects they are passionate about, while also discovering new areas of interest.

Class Cost and Scholarships:

Programs are open to all area children regardless of their ability to pay.  Please contact Liz Gonzalez at 410-226-637 or send an email to tayadirector@gmail.com for additional information on financial assistance.

Behavior Policy:

In conjunction with the Talbot County School policies, TASK has zero tolerance for “bullying” and students are released from the after school program if it occurs.  We require respectful, courteous and appropriate behavior from each and every child and TASK maintains the “three strikes and you are out” policy.  The first infraction is discussed with the student, second, the parent is called and advised of occurrence and third, the child is released from the program for the semester and tuition is not refunded.

Instructors:

All instructors are required to have a thorough back-ground investigation and fingerprinting accomplished prior to working with children. Many instructors are experts in their field or have had training or extensive experience in their field.  We are always looking for instructors who may provide new enrichment to our TASK kids.

Suggestions for improvement of the  TASK Program and comments are not only welcome but are encouraged.
